A historic tradition, these iconic boats have been racing the Bay for over a hundred years. Originally used as workboats for oystering, larger sails were added over time to increase speed, as the first watermen back to the dock was paid the highest price for his catch of the day. The first races were originally held in 1840, and were revived in 1920 with the establishment of the Miles River Yacht Club - known today at the Homes of the Log Canoes.
